Marston’s PLC, a leader in the UK hospitality sector, has partnered with Nuvolt for the installation of renewable energy systems across its operations. The first phase of this initiative targets both their headquarters, St John’s House, and a select group of pubs and inns across their estate, focusing on the installation of on-roof solar and battery storage. This case study details the implementation at St John’s House and the broader rollout in Phase 1, highlighting Marston’s commitment to sustainability and reducing operational costs.
The primary objective of the installations is to substantially decrease the carbon footprint of Marston's operations.
EV Charger
To reduce operational energy costs through the adoption of solar technology and battery storage.
Solar Panels
Ensure secure and efficient operations tailored to the extended hours of Marston’s premises.
Nuvolt, with Financial PPA support from HT Power, undertook the design, installation, and will manage the ongoing maintenance of the solar systems installed. The headquarters saw the deployment of a 114.38 kWp on-roof solar system using state-of-the-art SolarEdge technology and durable Van Der Valk mounting systems.
For Phase 1 of the project, customised solar systems were designed and integrated to accommodate the unique dimensions and functional requirements of each building. This bespoke approach ensured that energy generation was maximised while adhering to safety standards. To minimise interference with Marston's operations, which typically run for 12 hours each day, installation schedules were meticulously planned. This precision in execution allowed the first phase to proceed smoothly across multiple locations without hindering Marston’s daily business activities.
“With the support of Nuvolt’s expert team we are moving forward with solar installations increasing
the amount of on-site renewable energy generation. This partnership is a testament to the synergy between
our two organisations, sharing a mutual vision for a greener future.”
Chris White, Energy Manager, Marston's PLC
This initial launch serves as a foundational step in Marston's ambitious sustainability strategy. The installation at St John’s House projects a significant reduction in energy reliance on non-renewable sources, aligning with broader corporate sustainability goals. The successful completion of Phase 1 will set a robust precedent for subsequent phases, leading to a comprehensive overhaul of energy sources across all Marston’s locations.
Nuvolt extends special thanks to HT Power for their pivotal role in the delivery of the first phase and headquarters installations, highlighting the importance of strong partnerships in achieving sustainability goals in the renewables industry.
Marston’s initiative, led by Nuvolt’s expertise and HT Power's strategic support, exemplifies a bold commitment to environmental stewardship and operational efficiency in the hospitality sector. The successful implementation of these systems not only paves the way for future expansions but also serves as an inspiring model for other businesses aiming to make a positive environmental impact.
