Solutions
01The problem

Improving building sustainability while reducing operational energy costs

Britannia House wanted to integrate renewable energy generation into its existing office infrastructure as part of a wider sustainability initiative. The challenge was delivering a solar solution that complemented the building's architecture, reduced reliance on imported electricity and could be installed with minimal disruption to the businesses operating within the building.

Britannia House site context
02The solution

Integrated solar infrastructure designed around the building

Nuvolt designed, installed and commissioned a 46 kWp in-roof solar PV system comprising 145 solar panels at Britannia House. Rather than mounting panels above the existing roof, the system was integrated directly into the roof structure, creating a seamless architectural finish while generating renewable electricity on-site. The project required careful planning and coordination, particularly around access and safety. Scaffolding works near the building's main entrance were managed to maintain safe access for tenants and visitors while allowing installation works to progress efficiently.

  • 145 panels totalling 46 kWp integrated into the building envelope
  • Designed around a multi-tenanted office and co-working community
  • Reduces service-charge energy costs across the tenant base
  • Aligns with the building's role as a hub for innovation in South Wales
03 · The outcome

Renewable generation supporting a more sustainable workplace

The completed installation now generates renewable electricity on-site, helping reduce operational energy costs and supporting Britannia House's wider environmental objectives. Beyond the energy benefits, the project demonstrates how renewable infrastructure can be incorporated into existing commercial buildings without compromising aesthetics, functionality or tenant experience. The transformation reinforces Britannia House's commitment to sustainability while contributing to the wider adoption of low-carbon infrastructure within the business community.
