Marston's PLC
Sustainability initiative — headquarters and Phase 1 solar installation across Marston's hospitality estate, delivered with HT Power PPA support.
Balancing operational costs with sustainability commitments
Marston's PLC, a leader in UK hospitality, set out to reduce operational energy costs and substantially decrease the carbon footprint of its operations across both its headquarters and wider estate. The challenge was deploying renewable energy infrastructure within live commercial environments — pubs and inns typically trading for 12 hours a day — without interrupting service.

Renewable infrastructure designed around operations
Nuvolt designed and installed a 114.38 kWp on-roof solar PV system at Marston's St John's House headquarters using SolarEdge inverter technology and Van Der Valk mounting systems. In parallel, Phase 1 saw bespoke solar systems — with battery storage where appropriate — engineered to suit the unique dimensions and operational demands of selected pubs and inns. The programme was funded through a Power Purchase Agreement with strategic partner HT Power, and installation schedules were meticulously planned to work around each site's 12-hour trading day.
- 114.38 kWp on-roof solar PV at St John's House headquarters
- SolarEdge inverter technology with Van Der Valk mounting systems
- Bespoke Phase 1 solar designs tailored to each pub and inn
- Battery storage integrated where it suited site demand
- Funded through a Power Purchase Agreement with HT Power
- Installation scheduled around 12-hour daily trading with zero disruption
Greater energy control with measurable results
The headquarters system delivers approximately 90.18 MWh of renewable electricity each year, saving an estimated 17.44 tonnes of CO₂ and reducing reliance on grid energy. Phase 1 establishes a robust precedent for a phased rollout across Marston's 1,468-site estate, providing a scalable model for the company's long-term net-zero strategy.
“With the support of Nuvolt's expert team, we are moving forward with solar installations increasing the amount of on-site renewable energy generation. This partnership is a testament to the synergy between our two organisations, sharing a mutual vision for a greener future.”
