As one of the UK's largest employee-owned care providers, Shaw Healthcare operates facilities that rely on continuous access to energy for resident comfort, wellbeing and day-to-day care delivery. Rising electricity costs and increasing energy market volatility created an opportunity to reduce operating expenditure while improving long-term energy resilience and supporting wider sustainability objectives.


A bespoke solar and battery storage solution designed around operational demand
Following a detailed assessment of site energy consumption, Nuvolt designed and delivered tailored solar PV and battery storage systems for Shaw Healthcare's Maes-y-Dderwen and Cwm Celyn care facilities. The systems were engineered to align renewable generation with daily operational demand, enabling the homes to generate, store and utilise more of their own energy while maintaining the reliability required within a live care environment.

Lower operating costs with greater energy independence
The completed systems are projected to generate approximately 133.09 MWh of renewable electricity annually while reducing carbon emissions by around 29.6 tonnes each year. By combining solar generation with battery storage, Shaw Healthcare can reduce exposure to rising energy costs, improve energy independence and create a more predictable long-term energy model. The project is expected to achieve payback in approximately 2.4 years while continuing to support uninterrupted care delivery.
